In response to the post Stop Blaming the Parents, which explains that children have just as much creative power as adults do, I received the following excellent question:
If we choose our parents and create our own lives, how can it be that so many people choose to be born in [third world] countries facing hunger and an early death? Or baby’s being raped?
Disclaimer: While I won’t shy away from addressing “darker” subjects such as this, I do want to point out that as always, I’m giving you my view, my understanding and my truth. You’re free to take it if it helps you or leave it if it doesn’t. So, if you disagree, there’s no reason to get upset, k? Consider yourself disclaimered. 🙂
Why do we need the bad stuff at all?
In order to answer this question, it’ll be helpful if I explain why the “bad” stuff exists at all. From an energetic point of view, there is no “good” or “bad”. There is just wanted and unwanted. The Universe (and who we really are, at a pure energetic level) does not judge or assign value to anything. Everything is valuable in one way or another.
When we see something that we want, even if it’s just for a second, it’s immediately and automatically created energetically. And whenever something new is created, the Universe expands. When we see something we don’t want, our inner being, who we really are, knows what we do want (the opposite of what we don’t want), and once again, it’s created immediately and automatically. The Universe (which is a collection of all the energy, including all of us) expands. So, the Universe expands and benefits no matter what we experience. We, as a whole, benefit from both the wanted and the unwanted.
So, why do we need the unwanted stuff? Why can’t we just have the wanted? Because often it’s impossible for us to know what we do want without first experiencing and eliminating what we don’t want. For example, if you were born rich, and never knew what it is to be poor, you can’t really appreciate what it is to be rich. You need something to compare it to. You need its opposite, poverty, to give you perspective. So, poverty in and of itself, isn’t bad. It’s there to spark the desire to be rich, and to help us to truly appreciate it. The unwanted also helps us to define what we want. If you’re going to buy a new car, you’re going to want to test drive a bunch of them. How do you know which one you like, without eliminating the ones you don’t? And how do you know which cars you don’t like without first testing them out?
When you see something you don’t want, it breeds a desire for what you do want, and the more you dislike what you see, the more intense that desire becomes. The more intense your desire, the bigger your creation (you’re adding more energy to it). So being a little bit broke will make you want a bit more money, while being really, really poor will really, really make you want more money.
We’re not supposed to get stuck in the bad stuff
Now, we have the choice to focus on what we want and bring that into our reality, or to focus on what we don’t want and bring that into our reality, and we have a mechanism to tell the difference. Focusing on wanted stuff feels good (positive emotion) and focusing on unwanted stuff feels bad (negative emotion). It’s a perfect system, since, theoretically, no one would ever choose to feel bad, right? We’re built to always strive for a better feeling, to find our way up the emotional scale and find a better feeling thought.
And if we all did that, as we’re designed to do, there would be much less suffering in the world. The only problem is that we’ve convinced ourselves that suffering is somehow virtuous and that we must, at all costs, “face reality”, no matter how painful it is. And then we teach the new little humans that come in that our opinion is more important than their own, so that they can join us in our misery. Basically, we’d all be a lot happier if no one had taught us not to listen to our internal guidance system. Left to our own devices, we will always reach for and work our way up to joy.
The danger of prolonged powerlessness
Now, we’re not supposed to get stuck in the bad stuff, but because of the beliefs we’ve adopted, many of us do. And when someone gets stuck in powerlessness, the worst of all emotions, they will do anything, ANYTHING, to feel better. And prolonged powerlessness can lead to truly monstrous behavior. You’ll grab onto anything, even cruelly hurting others, because power over another feels better than no power at all. This is what causes all the terrible actions in the world. In every case, no exceptions, the perpetrator wants to regain some of their power and does so, the only way they know how to. And the victim, in their own suffering, powerlessness and low vibration, is a match to the incident. Every time.
The process of creating and receiving
We create our reality by focusing on what we want and don’t want. Everything we’ve ever wanted, including the opposite of what we didn’t want, has been created and is waiting for us to receive it. We receive our reality by lining up with its energy. We can receive stuff we like and stuff we don’t like, there’s no judgment and no quality control. You get what you line up with, period. How do you know what you’re lining up with? Well, you can just look around you. Your reality will show you what kind of energy you’re putting out there. But you can also use your early warning system to tell you what you’re about to receive – and those are your emotions again. If you’re feeling positive emotions, you’re lining up with something you want (the feeling of joy is when you’re lining up with your greatest desires). If you’re feeling negative emotions, you’re lining up with something you don’t want. Again, this works beautifully as long as we aren’t willing to feel bad.
It starts before we’re born
The creative process, the creation of our reality, begins before we’re even born. When we’re in the non-physical, we send forth some energy, some intentions that kick off the process of our lives. We do choose our parents, but not in the sense that we pick the actual people and details of our birth or the exact circumstances that we want to grow up in. We choose it all vibrationally and generally. When we look at our future lives from a purely energetic level (which we do form our non-physical point of view), we do not judge any experiences as good or bad. There is just what we want, and that which helps us to define what we want, both of which cause the Universe to expand.
So, let’s say that you’re an ambitious little bugger, floating around in the non-physical, and you want to experience and create as much as possible in the physical. You want to add as much as you can to the expansion of the Universe, and generate huge creations so you have the potential to experience as much joy as you can. You’d want to create an environment that breeds powerful desires, so that lining up with them would give you intense joy. And the best chance of doing that is to surround yourself with stuff you really, really don’t want, which would cause you to define and intensely desire what you do want, generating enormous creations. And the joy of aligning with such creations would rock the whole Universe.
From the non-physical, we trust completely in our guidance system. We know that our emotions will guide us towards aligning with what we want and that our inner being will continue to call us onward and upward. All we have to do is listen.
I realize that someone might read this and conclude that I’m saying that child abuse and starvation could be a good thing. I’m not saying that. I’m saying from an energetic point of view, it’s not good or bad, it just is. And only by truly accepting that can we begin to shift to a world where such extremes are no longer necessary (or at least won’t last very long.) Let me explain:
The First World view:
Let’s say that I was born into an abusive home (I wasn’t), with drug addled relatives, guns and beatings galore. This enormous quantity of unwanted stuff would have caused me to create an enormous quantity of wanted stuff, which I could align with anytime.
But I was born into a world where the belief that suffering is good is still very, very present, and was taught not to follow my guidance system, but look for external validation instead. So, when someone in my presence told me that I was a good girl, that I was worthy, I’d feel good. And when they weren’t happy with me, I learned not to be happy, either. I learned that how I felt was dependent on other people’s opinions of me, and stopped trusting my emotions to guide me.
So, what could have been a relatively short period of “unwanted”, leading to an aligning with and receiving of a huge pile of “wanted”, turned into a life-long misery where I continue to face my “reality” and can’t let go of the trauma of my past.
Now, I have two choices: I can keep looking at my past and present situation and blame the world, God, my parents, fate, or whatever, and continue to stay stuck in my current reality, or I can decide to finally begin to feel better and move out of it, the way I’d always intended.
By pushing against my past, the government, society and all people who are like me (poor, addicted to drugs, etc.), I continue to stay stuck in that vibration and nothing will change. But if I can find a way out of this situation, if I can feel better and begin to receive some of the amazing creations that are waiting for me, not only will my own reality change drastically, but I’ll be in a position to show others, who haven’t yet realized their own power, how to do it.
And as I, and others like me, wake up and realize our own power and that our guidance system is the only thing we ever need to listen to, we can begin to teach others and stop screwing up the new little humans. This is how we can change the world.
The Third World view:
But what about the third world? Am I saying that those people could snap their fingers and become millionaires?
Not likely, no, although it is theoretically possible (the kid Madonna adopted, for example). Different vibrations exist in different parts of the world. A soul who chooses to be born into an environment of heavy vibrations, in other words, into a huge pile of unwanted, for example, may end up in a war zone, because that’s the reality that matches its vibrational intentions.
Now, the mere fact that these souls have incarnated into an environment that breeds such huge desires and therefore such huge expansion, benefits the whole. But these individuals did not come here to suffer on our behalf. They have set themselves up with more challenges to overcome (for the purpose of producing bigger desires, creations and expansion), but they always intended to find joy. Our awareness of and insistent focus on their suffering doesn’t help – it only adds to the energy of their suffering, making it even harder for them to hear their guidance system.
But as we wake up, as we raise the vibration of the whole planet, and as we focus on solutions instead of pushing against the problem, the vibration of those locations will be raised as well. This will make it easier for people in the third world (and the first world) to find their own power and to begin to receive more of their wanted manifestations.
We can already see this happening. Such strong desire has been building over decades or even longer, and as it’s gathered more and more energy, the call of that energy, the call of each person’s inner being, has gotten louder, until it finally cannot be drowned out by the misguided opinions of others anymore. That’s when you see revolutions, mostly bloody in the past, put increasingly peaceful (due to higher and higher vibrations). Just look at what happened in Egypt. Women in the Middle East and Asia are becoming more and more empowered. The “little people” are no longer willing to be under someone’s thumb. And they’re fighting back. They’re rising up. They’re taking over. You can find examples everywhere.
It’s all good
On an energetic level, everything is happening perfectly. The global vibration is always rising, and each individual has their own guidance system and the ability to create their reality in every moment. The potential for each of us to rise up to any height we want is there. Nothing is broken. We’ve gotten a bit of misinformation, but this can be cleared up. And it’s about time we did so.
Should we help the third world?
So, if everything is going so perfectly, does that mean that we have no obligation to help those who are less fortunate? Well, actually no, we don’t. Motivating people to help by making them feel guilty about being more fortunate is misguided to say the least. You can’t get poor enough to make the third world richer. And helping people out of a sense of obligation, will not align you with the energy of those who are ready for your help. If you’ve ever heard of a charity with good intentions but which doesn’t seem to actually be improving anything, you’ve seen evidence of this misalignment.
Helping others because you want to instead of because you think you have to, and following your intuition so that you’re aligned with those who are ready for it, will make a huge impact, however. We can certainly assist those in the third world (or anywhere) who are an energetic match to it (notice how that takes our judgment of who “needs” our help or who is “worthy” of it, out of the equation). But in order to do so, we have to find a high vibration ourselves first, focus on the solution and use our intuition. Our help must come from a place of seeing their power, instead of seeing them as less fortunate or less able. True help empowers the other to help themselves. Teach a man to fish, and all that…
So, there you have it. What do you think? Has this explanation helped you in any way? Do you agree or disagree? Let me know in the comments.

Hi Melody,
I just wanted to thank you for this article, I just bookmarked it and will use it often! Ever since I got the stomach flu in mid-December of 2012, the past two months haven’t been the same for me. I experience exactly as you had in this article daily, the waking up to nausea, tummy aches and my body shaking all over from nerves. It actually put me in the ER this week, to where I found myself hooked up to IV’s and getting my blood drawn. It was the worst experience ever, being that I am afraid of needles and didn’t like being stuck in a dark creepy hospital room with a creepy tube in my arm. Today I almost got angry and put my foot down and said I’m tired of my tummy acting like this! I tried to look at it almost jokingly, in a positive light. Like, well at least with all this going on I stay skinny. But really, I have panic attacks when these episodes happen at night, and I feel a lot of fear because I’m afraid of vomiting. And of course, as you mentioned with LOA it only gets worse. I know it is my deliberate intent to heal inside and to enjoy the foods I enjoy eating and be able to drink my favorite energy drinks without fearing they are the culprit making me ill. I’m going to try your technique from now on. Interestingly, one evening when I was VERY ill, I actually heard a voice coming to me. I wasn’t sure if it was a ghost or my higher self or what it was! It was a male voice that said count to 10 and on each breathe exhale and say the number in your head until your tummy relaxes. And if you start to focus on the pain again, just start counting and breathing again. I did it and eventually I fell asleep and got all better by morning! I’m going to start focusing on how happy I feel when I’m mountain biking in the woods on a warm sunny day. Just about anything I can conjure up that brought me or brings me joy 🙂
Hey Nebby,
Thanks so much for sharing your experience!
One tip: If you feel yourself getting angry, let it happen. Don’t let it out ON someone, but go ahead and get angry in your head (or physically, if you need to, but punch a couch rather than a person, lol). It’s healthy to let anger our constructively, and it will help to heal you. 🙂
Huge hugs,
Melody
Hi Melody!
Thanks for answering such a popular question regarding how LOA operates. I never understood how “innocent” people can attract such atrocities in their life.
It got me thinking…how do you explain the phenomena where when you prepare for something, it’s likely NOT to happen? And when you’re NOT prepared, that’s usually when it DOES happen. Like freak accidents. Or let’s say someone’s house could just out of the blue get burglarized one day. They could or couldn’t have had an alarm, but most likely, they weren’t sitting at home worried about getting robbed right before it happened. Now the people that DO sit at home all paranoid and worried every night, with tons of locks on their doors and home alarm systems…somehow they’re LESS LIKELY to get victimized? Seems like because they prepared for it—even though they fear it—it doesn’t happen to them!
Same example can be for cancer, or other sickness. People get afflicted with what seems like random shit out of nowhere all the time, but the ones constantly worrying about getting cancer don’t ever get cancer? Of course this theory or whatever doesn’t apply each time, but I’ve noticed this general pattern and I can’t figure out how that works with LOA. When you fear something, don’t you attract that to you?
Hey Katherine,
Read my post on cancer to get a really good explanation of this: http://www.deliberateblog.com/2011/10/20/can-the-law-of-attraction-give-you-cancer/
But long story short: You don’t manifest getting burgled by worrying about getting robbed. You manifest the feeling that getting robbed happens to give you, personally, by focusing on something that evokes that same emotion from you. So, you may feel generally unsafe and paranoid at work, which causes you to get robbed, because to you, that feels the same way.
It’s about vibration and how your manifestations feel. The feeling is the real manifestation and it will match what you’ve been putting out there but haven’t been paying attention to. The post explains it much deeper. 🙂
Huge hugs,
Melody
Thanks for responding & clarifying, Melody!! I love when I finally understand the ways of LOA, teehee.
I just had to tell you that I randomly stumbled upon your cancer post going through your Archives–I only opened it though, didn’t read it yet–RIGHT BEFORE revisiting this page to see if you had replied.
Coincidence? THERE ARE NONE 😉
http://www.juliaingram.com/Common_Ground.html
Julia Ingram would disagree.
Hey Alice,
Actually, it doesn’t sound as thought she does.
If I met a mother whose son had just committed suicide, I would do nothing but hug her and sit with her. I would not even try to explain. In that state, she would not be able to hear the explanation. She has to be allowed to feel her feelings and go through here grief.
This is the difference between trying to help someone because you want them to feel better (so that you can feel better) and just opening yourself up to become a bridge to Who They Really Are.
Timing is everything. You have to know what to say, WHEN. I didn’t disagree with anything she said in her post. When people try to apply their own beliefs to others, their own vibration to others, it doesn’t work. You have to allow people to be where they are, and only help if you are inspired to. If you’re in doubt, it’s better to err on the side of silence.
Huge hugs!
Melody
Yep, still reading my way through old posts, and yes, still finding them fascinating. You always give me something interesting to think about, Melody. Gracias!
This time I find myself both attracted and questioning. My difficulty (after some pondering) centers mostly around animals. Tiny example: This morning I listened to my neighbor’s dog cry for two solid hours after she left, and finally sent her (the neighbor) a Tweet saying, “Abril no acaba de llorar,” which accomplished nothing. Now I feel unhappy for sending the Tweet and I feel unhappy for the dog. Lose lose. So is the answer that I try not to hear the howling? I send all the good vibes I can toward Abril, and she still cries so much I don’t want to live here any more. (hmm, I’m moving at the end of the month…) I’m genuinely perplexed how I can stay happy listening to her cry, even though I know perfectly well that my feeling bad doesn’t do her a minute of good.
On the other hand, this post helps me tremendously in thinking about humankind in difficult situations. This fall in the midst of a Solstice meditation, my intuition sent a vibration of listening to a bird singing out to everyone in Mexico who perpetrates violence. I felt very strongly that for an instant, a lot of troubled people heard a bird singing. I daily try to radiate light and joy whenever I meditate. This post lets me combine these intuitions into sending peace, hope, light, joy, a bird song, targeted across the world to people who could use some. Doing this drops my own powerlessness quotient way down the scale.
I guess my question boils down to how do you deal with misery when it’s in your face, especially with animals. When a dog is in physical pain from surgery, I can raise their vibration and ease them into peaceful sleep, and I can ease their death when necessary, but I don’t know how to deal with my neighbor’s crying dog.
Fuertes abrazos!
Mary Carol
ps… and RESPECT (radiated to people in difficult situations)
Hi Mary Carol,
I can’t tell you why this puppy has to cry, but perhaps I can help you explore why you’ve brought this experience into your reality.
You seem to have a bit of a vibration of powerlessness (you even realized it). Perhaps it’s not strong, and a crying puppy is not the same as being mugged, but it’s enough to get your attention. Being powerless to help this puppy is a manifestation of a feeling of powerlessness you’re carrying around with you.
Again, I can’t tell you why this puppy is a match to this experience. I don’t have nearly enough information to make a determination like that, but this is more about you than him. Yes, you can often help a puppy by sending it energy, but in this case, the lesson is that you CAN’T always help people and animals. It is not always your place to do so and you have to accept that even if you can’t help someone or something, that doesn’t mean that they are doomed. Everyone is on their path and it is not your responsibility to save them all. Even when you can, you have a choice. If they are a match to being helped, and you choose not to help them, they will manifest someone else. You have to allow others to live their journey, and sometimes the best thing you can do for them is to let them wade through the muck, unaided. Use your sense of intuition, not your sense of pity to decide when to step in and help and when to simply bless them and let them go on their way.
I’m sure that there were times in your own life on which you can look back, when things were hard but when no one could’ve helped make it easier. You had to go it alone and learn your lessons (shift your energy). If other, well meaning people stepped in, they simply annoyed you. They could not help you. It was your journey. Often, we can see this stuff in hindsight. I believe this puppy is showing you something – you have a need to help. You tie how you feel to whether or not you succeed in that help. You can’t help this puppy and it’s making you miserable. Know that this puppy is just fine without you, that it is clearly not your place to assist here and do your best to think of other things. If you succeed in feeling better, he’ll stop crying. 🙂
Hugs!
Melody
Helpful! Thanks, Melody. Your response has raised my vibration enough to see a little more clearly.
I need to remember that “helping” doesn’t help. The only resource available is unconditional giving. I can send Abril light, love, and joy, and then move on, without attachment to the outcome.
It’s harder to hold onto my insights when it’s a human messing with an animal. Anger comes to the surface very easily. I’m guessing that in this case, I resonate with the powerlessness of an animal locked in a house. Hmmm… entrapment… more fodder for meditation.
Beaming joy back at you,
Mary Carol
Melody,
You mean you don’t want to be tortured for the sake of spiritual experimentation? 😉
I think of shamanism–where one of the key components is usually some form of “not fun experience” being torn apart–being struck by lightning–blah blah. They used to say that if you didn’t practice shamanism after such an experience, what you had to look forward to was death.
It is POSSIBLE to hold spiritual principles through a lot of shit, but I think is very difficult because the suffering clouds one’s vision. I think if the suffering is prolonged enough, most people will cave.
You are right in that my example is extreme, and some people can STILL do it–sorta like the biblical Jobs of the world.
And, I agree that enlightenment doesn’t take away desires, but it does re-prioritize them. You probably aren’t going to want many fine bitches and a Ferrari because since you have an “on tap” divine connection those things will likely pale in comparison–but you never know, maybe you still will. What is certain is that it will be a secondary consideration.
[…] at the lawofattraction blog there is a post concerning why children would “choose” to be born in a third world […]
I see two views here–the one says that it’s all good–from a spiritual perspective that is. I can agree with that. On the other hand, though, if you are the one who is starving or having bamboo shoots rammed up your toenails, the fact that spiritually it is “all good” is probably not going to carry much weight.
I don’t think high-minded spiritual principles flourish well in deprivation–if your core needs–safety, security, etc are not met, then there is going to be a tendency to live life at the most base, animalistic level. In order to apply spiritual principles, you will have to survive. If you can’t survive, your spiritual principles just evaporate into principles.
Put another way, you may have an INTENSE desire to be safe and secure while you are having bamboo shoots rammed up your toenails, and you may learn that safety is “very important”, but if your environment is such that obtaining some measure of safety is impossible–that is to say you cannot escape the torture chamber and you have more torture to look forward to, my bet is your spiritual mettle will be reduced down to nothing. Diseases like PTSD spring from this well–spiritual holes are poked deeply into a person.
Personally, I don’t think matters such as torture and deprivation are part of the divine desire for humanity–but they are an option. You are “free” to royally screw your fellow person around–of course sooner or later there are likely to be consequences.
I’d say the process of enlightenment, if I’m qualified to speak about such, is one wherein your desires die. That’s not to say that eating, sleeping and drinking die. It is to say that if you want RICHES or lots of sex, or whatever, then you haven’t found a place where you put “the all’ first. If you find yourself in a poor third world country, you accept it. If you find yourself with a bunch of money, you accept it. If you find yourself in any pleasant or unpleasant situation, you accept it. If riches come your way, then you are grateful. If your efforts produce success–you have gratitude. Yet, you slowly learn that “you” didn’t really “do it”. The “you” doing it is an illusion.
The process of producing MORE desires, I think, is usually on the road to producing only one desire–which is to understand the all and do as it wills.
Hi Joe,
I also don’t think that suffering or having bamboo shoots rammed up your toenails is part of any divine plan. It’s certainly an extreme form of contrast. And I can’t speak from personal experience here, since I’ve never been tortured (and am not about to go through that just in order to gain the experience…) but there are people who managed to shift their reactions in hellish situations. Victor Frankl comes to mind. He showed that one has control over one’s thoughts and therefore one’s ultimate experience, even under the most unthinkably inhuman circumstances.
I don’t think that we have to give up our desires to become enlightened. But our motivation for those desires does change. We are here to experience the physical. And driving nice cars, flying in luxurious planes, eating amazing food and the like all help us to do that. The difference is that if we try to use material goods and experiences to find happiness, we’ll fail, every time. But if we become happy, we can experience those things just for the fun of it – not to gain anything, but just because we like it. That’s a very different mindset. There’s no attachment, you don’t NEED any of it, you just enjoy it.
Thanks, as always, for your wonderful and concise thoughts. I can only imagine how others are benefiting from these amazing discussions of ours. 🙂
Hugs,
Melody
Dear Melody,
This stuff provided me a great relief, yes too had all these insights and also i limited my life to years of living. So within this life span i have to get everything i wanted, even faster than this, immediately. I want to be a sportsman, musician, militaryman, farmer, scientist, poet, singer, policeman, fighter, orater, politician, industrialist, writer, traveler, sculpture, Rich and also a saint.Hoo all this was my desire and it prevails whenever some news or posters or TV of above mentioned type, i start dream of that kind for certain period. And when i face some real world problem,i try to quit the dream and try to become saint. As for as in dream i am very happy and comfortable, also strong belief that one day i ll achieve that especially becoming rich.
This is what my life.I wrote this, just it came in my mind.
Thank You
With Hugs
P.Murali Kannan
Hi Murali,
I know exactly what you mean. I have tons of passions, too! Just remember that the best thing you can do for the world is to be happy. Not only does that help to raise the vibration of everyone around you, but once you’re in that high vibration, your intention to help others will lead you to the most effective ways to do just that. You don’t have to give up your dreams to help anyone, in fact, giving up on being truly happy actually hurts the world (by depriving it of the shining light you are when you’re in bliss).
I’m so glad this post helped you find more clarity. Stay with that feeling you had when all this came out of you!
Hugs,
Melody
Hi Melody
The problem I have is that many LOA fans take it to an illogically extreme and aren’t comfortable with the answer “I don’t know”. I just recently read one of Jerry Hicks books (thanks to you) and a lot of what he espouses makes sense, but I’m unwilling to believe what I don’t believe. Wish you the best.
Riley
Hi Riley,
Glad to hear you gave Abraham Hicks a try! 🙂 I don’t think it’s possible to find someone that you agree with 100% of the time. That’s the issue – a lot of people see it as an all or nothing scenario. You either resonate with something or you don’t. Take the bits that speak to you and leave the rest. And even when we figure something out, we can (and generally will) change our minds at any time. As we grow, get access to more and more information and deeper understanding, our world view is going to have to keep up. And that means being willing to reevaluate things even when we’re sure about them.
And I so agree with you. People do take it to extremes – on both sides of the fence. For example, if I say “We’d be better off if we stopped pushing against drugs, etc.”, there’s always the one guy who says “So, if someone shoots another person in the head while on heroin, you’re saying we should give him a medal?” All we can do is run whatever information we get though our own filter. If we resonate with it, we keep it (for now…). If we don’t, it’s there for someone else.
You’ve made such excellent points. Thanks for sharing!
Hugs,
Melody
Hey Melody. Wow, that was quite a post. 🙂
I agree that “bad” is necessary in the world, because “good” makes absolutely no sense at all without it. They are in fact just opposite sides of the same coin.
It goes the same for black/white, night/day, sick/healthy, rich/poor, etc. … none of these make sense without the opposite.
And let’s face it… life would be so boring without the opposite extremes… it adds zest to life. Think about the last time you were really sick, and then how great it felt when you were fully recovered… you would have really appreciated the feeling of good health again. And it definitely helps make you a stronger person in the long run.
Thanks for a really good post.
Hi Andrew,
Thanks for stopping by! I know, right? Life WOULD be boring if there was never any contrast. In fact, we’d cease to exist. Contrast is necessary not just for expansion, but in order for us to have any kind of experience at all. Bless the contrast! 🙂
Hugs,
Melody
Melody,
valuable information and thank you for sharing I field questions about suffering all the time and I just do not believe all the old thinking – such as the pour will always be with us/we will always have war. We might need conflict but we do not need war…is my reply.
I have just experienced a big trauma with my puppy needing emergency surgery and instead of waiting by reading or worrying….I got out pencil and pen and began writing down the story of the event. I wondered why this even happened right now….and why I was drawing so much expense to myself. Suddenly I realized that the $5K that they were putting on my credit card as a guarantee was the $5K that I was was trying to manifest to pay the card off….I started visualizing the joy I would feel when the card was zero’d and after all was said and done the bill was down to $2,400 added to the card.
Now I am working on the next round of discovery..and reviewing the lesson – What was I not seeing and not feeling at the time I nearly lost my good companion and wiggling love fest?
I am working on changing my eating habits again – in a big way; so there is a clue
always the journey
Hi Patricia,
I was so happy to hear that your puppy is ok now. Poor thingy. May I offer a thought? Animals are often here to teach us a great deal. The event you drew to you was most likely scary. You were afraid of losing him, no? Could it be that this served to highlight some fears around death/loss, or something along those lines that you have yet to make peace with? Just a thought…
Hugs to you and your little one,
Melody
Excellent blog Melody! I really resonated with your insights on this. The line that really struck me the most personally was: “I learned that how I felt was dependent on other people’s opinions of me, and stopped trusting my emotions to guide me.”
This line tells the story of my adolescence which still affects me today (although much less because I am fully aware of it). Somewhere along the way, I deemed other people’s opinion more important than mine. In line with your theory, this has allowed me to now have a deep passion for self discovery that I may not have had otherwise. As you said, there is no good or bad. Everything just is…the value we give to it merely reflects our level understanding and vibration.
Kim
Hi Kim,
I think most of us alive today picked up that little gem… 😉
I’m so glad that you’re able to see how a “painful” adolescence turned into something positive. I had much the same experience. I had a really hard time as a teenager, and at the time, I couldn’t have seen anything good in it, but now, I wouldn’t change a thing. Yay us! 🙂

Melody
This is very very interesting to me. I’ve recently become really curious about karma and soul rebirthing and all that jazz.
The idea that revolting against your situation creates a powerful energy field is something I like a lot.
I also just realized from this post that I sort of already have everything I could ever want. A peaceful life, sustainable income, and so on. What a magical realization.
Thanks. 🙂
Hi Fred,
What a wonderful realization! I try to stop often and appreciate how kick-ass my life already is. I think the perfect place to be is to appreciate where you are and expect even better stuff, not because you need it, but because it’ll just be so much fun! 🙂
Hugs,
Melody
Hi Melody,
Great post! One of the reasons that there is suffering in the world is due to the fact the majority focus on such issues (negative issues) whether it is poverty, sicknesses, homelessness, wars, cheating, etc… If people change their focus and decide to become “all good” then there will be no suffering, but since people have different vibrations and focus on issues differently, this won’t happen unfortunately. Thanks for sharing Melody
Thanks Dia,
The important thing to remember, though, is that no matter how much suffering there is, we’ll only ever be aware of what we bring into our own reality. So, instead of blaming others for putting their focus on all the negative stuff, we have to realize that everything that shows up in our personal reality is due to what we’ve focused on. Basically, we can become completely oblivious to a lot of the ugly stuff in the world. And as more and more people do that, less and less of the ugly stuff will actually exist.
Hugs,
Melody
Becoming aware of all that is in this world does not necessarily mean being able to do a whole lot about what we don’t like about it. We can just better understand it and learn from it. This in turn may bring about the change that we want.
Melody, your response is brilliant.
Hi Glynis,
Thanks so much for your kind words. It does require a huge paradigm shift to stop pushing against what we don’t want, but it feels so much better. 🙂

Hi Melody,
When I discovered the law of attraction it helped me to better understand the world that we live in and also how people end up in their own unique experiences of life.
Once people begin to understand the law of attraction it kind of removes the “victim mentality” that many carry with them. Whenever an unwanted scenario pops up in my life I also use it as a reference tool to see what I had been consciously focusing on lately.
The cool thing is that when something unwanted happens we can use that as a tool to create what we do want.
Great explanation on this matter because many have this question as well.
Hi Justin,
So, so true. I love it when something unwanted happens and I’m able to go straight to “What is this an indication of?” instead of having to go through “Why is this happening to me?!” It puts such a positive perspective on things and above all, it gives us back control!
Thanks for stopping by!
Hugs,
Melody
Hi Melody
I would like to thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I have not imagined that you would write an entire article but I am grateful for that.
I think that you have answered my question. And reading between the lines tells me that you agree with the book The Seat of the Soul written by Gary Zukav.
I read it a long time and it felt right. It was the first time I ever felt that someone could give an explanation on all the injustice in the world.
I think that the book and the LOA are “easy” to understand. I believe in it, but unfortunately I am not able to live by it. I wish I could, because I live my live as a zombie.
I hope that I can wake up, and I think that it was no accident that I stumbled on your excellent site.
Thanks for teaching LOA, right now you are my lighthouse 🙂
Hi Martin,
I’m so glad that you liked the post and found the answer useful.
You’re absolutely right, I loved the book The Seat of the Soul. I resonated deeply with it and its concepts. So, we’re definitely very much on the same page. 🙂

Melody
Hi Todd,
It is quite a complex subject, which required a complex answer. I attempted to pack a whole lot of info into one post, but I’ll do my best to elaborate in the future….
I’m glad that the post gave you a little more clarity. Even we read something we disagree with, it helps us define what we would agree with a little more. Perfect example of how something we don’t want helps us to get clearer on what we do want, eh?
Hugs,
Melody
Hi Melody,
This certainly was a deep, mind bending post. I was trying to follow along the best I could but to be honest I kind of got confused, but more than likely that is because I am almost at the end of my night here at work and really tired.
Anyway, I thought it was interesting how you said that we start the creative process before we are born into the physical and a soul could “create an environment that breeds powerful desires, so that lining up with them would give you intense joy. And the best chance of doing that is to surround yourself with stuff you really, really don’t want.”
That would definitely make sense for those souls who choose to reincarnate into third world situations. So basically they are choosing a crappy physical existence to better understand powerful desires. Interesting view point, I somewhat agree.
