I wanted to find a way to reach out to and connect with my readers a little more, so… drum roll please… I decided to make a video. Welcome to my very first VLOG.

In Self-Development circles, there’s a lot of discussion about action – when to take action, how to take action, and how to make things happen with action. And the main focus of all these discussions tends to be about overcoming laziness. But what is laziness, exactly?
Laziness and Procrastination are just indicators of resistance. What does that mean? When you want something, when you have a goal, and you have some thoughts and beliefs that are running alongside that desire which basically say that you don’t want this thing for some reason – that’s resistance. And it’s going to sabotage you. As you try to take action toward what you want, resistance is going to manifest as all kinds of obstacles, like laziness and procrastination.
Let me give you an example: Let’s say that you want to lose weight and you have a belief that says that you have to exercise in order to reach that goal. But for some reason, you cannot get yourself to the gym. You keep intending to go, but stuff comes up, or you just can’t be bothered. You may have a belief that exercise is no fun; perhaps you’ve had some negative or humiliating experiences in the past (like in P.E., as a child). That’s resistance. Or, you may actually be resistant to the goal of being thinner. You want to be thin, but you may also have a fear that you’ll be more vulnerable if you’re thinner. You might have to put up with more unwanted sexual attention, for example. So the thought of losing weight, while sounding wonderful, also triggers a fear. That’s resistance, and resistance creates obstacles in your reality. So every time you start to go for what you want, that resistance is going to manifest as obstacles. Laziness and procrastination are nothing but obstacles, created by resistance.
Willpower vs. the Law of Attraction
So, what can you do, if you find that you have resistance? You have two ways of getting what you want:
Willpower
You can use the tried and true method of willpower. You can force yourself to take action. You can force yourself to get up off the couch and go to the gym and beat yourself into submission. And while this brute force action approach can certainly bring results, it’s really the hard way of going about it. It’s short lived; willpower only lasts so long before it fizzles out. If you don’t clean up your vibration, that resistance is going to keep getting in the way. It’s exhausting – you feel like you’re trying to bust through a brick wall head first. And, when you try to make things happen with pure willpower, you tend to be really mean to yourself. “Get up! Get your fat butt off this couch!” It’s certainly not the gentlest of methods.
There is a better way.
Line up your energy
The better way is to line up your energy with what you want and allow the Universe to bring it to you. How do you do that?
Focus on the essence of what you want
In our example, you’ve been focusing on trying to get yourself to go the gym and exercise. But exercising isn’t your end goal. It’s what you think you have to do to get to your end goal. Why do you want to exercise? Because you think it will help you to lose weight.
But weight loss isn’t your ultimate goal either. Why do you want to lose weight? Because you think it will make you happier. You want to feel more attractive, sexier, more confident. You want to have better self esteem.
The essence of what you want is a feeling, not a thing or a task that you have to perform. This is the WHAT. Leave the HOW up to the Universe. It has an infinite amount of ways to orchestrate the arrival of what you want. All you have to do, is get out of the way.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m not trying to sell you on giving up your desire to lose weight, as in “Just accept the fat and be happy with it forever.” If you have a desire to be thin, you can certainly create that. But when you focus on the end goal (happiness), not only are you taking the short cut to what you really want, instead of the long way around, but you’re also much less likely to trigger resistance. The Universe knows what you want. There are no tricks here. When you line up with the vibration of what you truly want, the circumstances that match that, including a thin body, are going to come into your reality much faster.
So, focus on the essence of what you want and leave everything else up to the Universe.
Pay attention to how you feel
Let’s go back to our example. So, you want to lose weight and you’ve figured out that what you really want is to feel confident, attractive and happy. As you begin to focus on those thoughts, you notice that there’s some negative feelings. Some anxiety, or sadness or even anger pop up. It doesn’t matter what the exact emotion is, it just doesn’t feel good. Those negative feelings are indicators of resistance.
You see, when you have resistance, it first begins to manifest as negative emotion. That’s your first indication. If you ignore the negative emotion, the resistance will begin to manifest in a bigger way – as laziness and procrastination. If you still don’t do anything about it, it will perhaps create a physical obstacle. You might sprain you ankle, and now you can’t go to the gym. So, if you pay attention to the negative emotion, you can nip the resistance in the bud before it manifests in a bigger and more uncomfortable way.
So pay attention to how you feel when you’re focusing on what you truly want. Then, isolate the thoughts that are causing those feelings and release them.
Releasing negative beliefs
There are literally hundreds of ways to release negative beliefs in books and on the internet. Some examples are Byron Katie’s The Work, or the Lefkoe Method. I posted one of my favorite methods, the Vibrational Ladder, here just the other day. It doesn’t really matter which method you use, as long as you shift your energy.
Leveraging Universal energy
When you take the time to line up your energy with what you want before trying to take brute force action and trying to make things happen with pure willpower, you allow the Universe to assist you in attracting your desires. You begin to leverage this enormous creative power.
A few things are going to happen:
1.) First, you’re going to feel A LOT better. You’re finding those thoughts that don’t feel good and you’re getting rid of them.
2.) You’re going to have some insights and ideas on how to move forward. They may be very different from what you thought you’d need to do, but you’ll know in your gut that these actions will actually lead to results.
3.) The Universe will begin to line up coincidences and opportunities for you, which will make the journey easy and enjoyable.
This is why lining up your energy before you take action is the cure for willpower. You’re no longer trying to force yourself to do something you don’t really want to do. Instead of denying yourself the foods you love, for example, you’re going to very naturally gravitate towards healthier foods. They will just look good to you, while the foods that are keeping you from losing weight will begin to lose their appeal. You’ll wake up in the morning, full of energy and ready to get going. You won’t be able to wait to charge ahead, like a kid on Christmas morning. You won’t need to motivate yourself to do what you think you should, because you’ll be taking action that you actually want to take. Wild horses wouldn’t be able to stop you.
When you line up your energy first, laziness will be a thing of the past.
Just wanted to validate everything you said in your video as I have created a body that now weighs 27.5 lbs less and counting using the exact process you talked about. It’s been very easy. No special diet or specific exercise program. For me, the essence of what I wanted was to feel good about my body no matter how it looks. No more loathing, repulsion and shame around it. To help, I created a list of 20 positive aspects about it and read it (vibrate into it) daily. In the past I used running to manage my weight but hated every minute of it and was losing the battle. I never exercised in the morning because it would wear me out; unlike some people who are energized. I had to do it at night. I let go of the how and kept focusing on the feeling I wanted. One morning I felt inspired to go for a walk along the beach where I live. Only because it feels so good to do it, that has now become a two hour daily ritual that energizes me. Tricky part was when the scale stopped moving a few days ago and I noticed I wasn’t feeling good anymore. Had to take my focus off of “what is” and get back to just feeling good about my body even if the scale never moved again.
Congrats on the blog. I had an LOA blog myself and I know how much effort is required to maintain it.
Regards,
Michael
Oh Michael! Thanks so much for sharing your story here. I’m sure you’ll inspire a ton of people with your comment.
What you described is very common: You go along just fine for a while, but then you begin to focus on your weight again (or on whatever was causing the weight to begin with) and the shrinking stops. All you have to do is realign and get to feeling good again, just as you described. This process is more like going down steps and less like going down a hill. You hit a few plateaus here and there, where you have to stabilize your vibration and reorient yourself. But when you get it right, the weight loss is effortless.
I really appreciate your willingness to share here.
Super hugs for you!
Melody
As someone who works from home, I had to find a balance with work and ALLOWING myself to get lazy at night. The opposite problem I guess. But I know a LOT of people who struggle with trying to just get up in the mornings and work towards their ambitions. So, as a filmmaker, I decided to make a little video about it: http://youtu.be/kpShPFMp1h8 Enjoy! Please, subscribe and share it if you like it!
Hi Page,
You’re so talented! Thanks for sharing this. I’m still a video toddler, so really appreciate watching professional work like yours. 🙂
Hugs,
Melody
This is great stuff!
I never knew that you can use LOA for beating the procrastination 🙂
I want to check out your blog for more stuff – keep adding more video content 🙂
Cheers,
Timo
Hi Timo,
The Law of Attraction is kind of the theory of everything, at least the way I understand and teach it.
Thanks so much for your kind words. The next one is already in the can (I think that’s what you call it, unless I’ve just said that the video is in the toilet…). Um, the next one is done and will be uploaded shortly. I look forward to seeing you around!
Hugs,
Melody
Cool idea Melody, like the VLOG it is awesome.
Thanks Todd! Stay tuned for more. Not that I’ve got most of the bugs worked out, I’m having tons of fun with it! 🙂
Hugs,
Melody
wow Melody, you are really a natural, beautiful and you know how to behave in front of the camera. The x-factor is absolutely working for you 🙂
It was well prepared. I wonder how long it took you to prepare this all?
I also liked the content – resistance as a result of non alignment with the universe. I believe it a very good method, probably one of the best there is on the planet. However, finding the reason of resistance is not always so easy to do. Unconscious behavior can be a part of your personality, ‘printed’ in your unconsciousness and only visible at the moment of confrontation. Focus on what you desire is the first step. Having the courage to face the reason of resistance is another.
Thanks for your inspiring VLOG!
Hi Marc,
Thank you so much for your wonderful words!!
Well, it took me a few weeks to research how to make a video on a shoestring budget. Then a couple of weeks to gather all the materials. All the while I spent a lot of time working on my resistance.
Since it was my first time, I made a lot of mistakes, like writing a video script that turned into a 20 minute video. So I had to start over. All in all the actual work on the video was about a week, but again, that included a lot of mistakes and do overs. I shot the video in 3 days (load of takes and again, I lost a day to the script that got thrown out). I had to learn how to stand in front of the camera, what I liked and didn’t like and make adjustments accordingly. All of that info will serve me well in future videos. I’m pretty sure that I can whittle this down so that I can make a video in about a day, once I get all the bugs worked out.
I think that’s where most of our work is – figuring out what the resistance is, once we recognize that we’re allowed and able to feel good. That’s why I always try to give lots of real world examples. Perhaps if someone reads it, it will trigger recognition in them, as in “I have that!” And then they can move forward. That’s why I love questions so much. It helps me address more real-world beliefs…
Thanks for your comment! Hugs,
Melody
Hi Melody,
First of all you are looking beautiful, i always wanted to see you in better picture, LOA worked.,heheh ehhehehe.
Really good i loved watching the viedo, i am also lazy even to read one or two pages of blog,it is very useful, i love to have blogs in this form.
Thank You
With Regards
P.Murali Kannan
Ahahaha Murali. That really made me laugh. But yes, everything in your experience is brought to you by LOA. So… yep. My video was a type of manifestation fo ryou. Glad I could be of help. 😉
Thank you so much for your kind words. I’ve already begun thinking of my next VLOG topic and thinking of how to implement all the valuable feedback I received (I’m still learning how to make videos and there’s A LOT to learn…) So don’t worry, more are on the way. 🙂
Hugs,
Melody
You know what I like about you and this site, Melody? I like that you practice what you preach in a big way. Like your first VLOG. That’s proof right there that resistance doesn’t have to block us from doing more in life. Congrats on your first VLOG, it was great, and I really hope there are tons more coming our way! 🙂
A quick question though: When you say we have to focus on our negative emotions, do you mean internally or do we have to physically do something about it? Example : A student wants to study filmmaking but his parents are forcing him to take up medicine. There is absolutely NO way to change his parents’ minds. The student focuses on his goals, but every time he does so, negative emotions creep up, such as worry and fear of his parents and how they would react when they know about his true ambitions.
What would be the right way to overcome this? Does he have to physically confront his parents? And if not, what is the right thought-process to overcome the negative emotions he has about them? Keep in mind that there is absolutely NO way they’d agree on the filmmaking bit…consider it an unbreakable brick wall. 🙂
Hi Derrek,
Thanks so much for your wonderful words. There will definitely be more videos in the future.
Confronting the parents would be the brute force action way to go. The student should focus on what he really wants – to make his own decisions, to be free, to practice his passion. If he does that successfully, the solution will come. Either, he’ll find just the right words at just the right moment that will actually convince his parents (without a big, ugly confrontation). Or, his parents will meet someone or have some kind of other experience that changes their minds. If he aligns his energy with what he truly wants, he will line up with a reality where he gets what he wants. He can’t force his parents to change their minds, but he can elicit a version of them that will allow him his freedom to make his own choices. In order to do that, though, he’d have to begin seeing his parents in a very different way. As long as he thinks that “they’ll never change their minds”, he’s keeping himself stuck in that vibration.
Hugs,
Melody
Hey Melody,
Great video, you are a natural.
I don’t use force anymore either, I have felt the exhaustion from this as well. I think that is why I resonated so much with Abe Hicks and going with the flow.
Unfortunately we live in a world that encourages us to push through obstacles and so forth. I find that everything that I need comes to me without having to force it.
Hi Justin,
Exactly! We can achieve a lot with brute force action, but it’s just so exhausting. It’s so much easier to just line up our energy. But I never try too hard to convince people of that. If they’re not ready to hear it, there’s nothing I can do to change their minds right now. Eventually, though, they might wonder why people like us can accomplish things without all the stress and drama and then they might ask again… 🙂
Hugs,
Melody
Oh that was way fun and it made me wish to do that too…then one of those resistance things popped up – technically challenged…yet you know what was amazing about that? I am tech challenged and do not have equipment…but the first thing was not that I did not want my picture taken and people to see me
I loved seeing you..and your good energy. and I was quite tired of reading – tired eyes today 🙂 I thought you explanations were so clear and then I could read them again – nice
message in 2times with one visit.
Hi Patricia,
I’m totally bootstrapping it. You don’t need that much equipment or to spend a lot of money. There’s so much information on the web about how to do videos cheaply. And yeah, it does limit you a bit, but I don’t have the skill right now to use more sophisticated equipment anyway… 😉
I had the same fear. I worked it out and got over it. People do want to see what you look like, but they’re not going to judge you (just take a gander at YouTube… how many movie star looking people do you see?) Most people look like normal human beings and that’s just fine. It’s all about the message (but yeah, it took me a while to work my way into that thought…) I’d love to see you do a video!
Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback. I’ll definitely make sure to always include the written version in future VLOGS. 🙂
Hugs,
Melody
Hi Melody
Really REALLy enjoyed your VLOG and hope you do loads more (yes, LOADS more). Its funny that I get really excited when something new comes out on Deliberate Receiving. All of the topics you cover, even when it is an area of my life that I am happy with and have no resistance towards, I read anyway and somehow still get benefit out of it. You’re incredibly down to earth and a very natural speaker and writer. So glad i came across your site! You definitely have a follower here! xx
Wow Rana. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your words. I will definitely do more videos in the future. As I get better at them, I’ll get faster and then I can do more… Just bear with me. Stay tuned. There’s much more to come! 🙂
Hugs,
Melody
Hi Melody,
You are a natural (of course it doesn’t hurt to be a good looking photogenic blond) – excellent video. I personally prefer written blogs with the occasional video. I will say that all preconceived notions about who someone is get shredded with a video. Keep up the good work.
Riley
Wow Riley, thank you so much! *blush* I figured I’d publish the transcript to cover all the bases and I’ll be sure to do that in the future. 🙂
Hugs,
Melody
I think your V log turned out well–and is probably a wise supplementary format. I’ve thought about doing some of this as well, but find that I’m typically on a satellite internet connection which makes that more challenging.
Here’s my “somewhat” hard question for today. How do you know when the universe says “No” when using something like the law of attraction? Do you think it always defaults to yes and people just stay in the way?
Hi again Joe. I’d love to hear Melody’s response too, but my opinion is that there’s never really a definite “no”, maybe just an alternative route. I truly believe we were given free-will in order to choose whatever we want for ourselves. Unfortunately when we’re “out of tune”, we tend to choose destructive habits, bad relationships, and make wrong decisions in life. Being “in tune” still gives us free-will, only difference being if we were to choose the wrong goals, The Universe would redirect us towards something more suited for our happiness. We may not realize it at that point and deem it as “rejection” from The Universe, but in time we’ll probably realize how happy we’ve been ever since.
I think the paradox here is that when you’re really in-tune, you’ll be “wise” enough to choose the proper path for yourself, which in-turn would allow The Universe to deliver to you the proper resources to achieve the goal you’ve always wanted…which again in-turn means you and the LOA will function as a single unit instead of you needing it to deliver anything to you.
Hi Joe,
Thanks so much for your kind words. This video is only about 500 MB, so I’d give it a shot, even with a satellite connection. Could be fun! 🙂
The Universe never says no. Ever. It always, ALWAYS says yes to everything we want. We’re the ones who aren’t necessarily saying yes to our desires – when we’re not aligned with them. But there’s no judgment, ever, of our desires, so that we’d get some of them (if they are deemed worthy enough) and not others (if they are judged as no good).
When we are out of alignment, we are essentially out of alignment with what we really want – which is joy and happiness. So, our vibrational feedback system – our emotions – lets us know. We experiences negative feelings. Anytime we move towards joy, we feel better. But the Universe will deliver anything we line up with, whether or not it feels good and whether or not it serves us. So, your second question is right on. We are the ones who get in the way, by lining up with things we don’t really want and which don’t feel good and not lining up with those things we do truly want. It really is that simple. 🙂
Hugs,
Melody
Heya Melody and Derek,
Thanks for replying. 500 MB is a big deal to me, sadly, Melody. I’m almost at 1996 internet speed especially on uploads. Downloads are not so bad–but the bandwidth is limited. That’s a disadvantage to living in the woods.
I would say that not everyone is as in tune with their feelings as everyone else. Speaking for myself, I can “arrive at” what I’m emotionally feeling, but if you ask me at a given second, it’ll probably take me a minute to figure it out. I’m sure that sounds weird, but that’s how I work. It comes in handy when you have to “get stuff done” and your emotions “don’t matter” which happens fairly frequently in life. (e.g. maybe you have to clean the house or do laundry, which are not exciting tasks and are not really emotionally uplifting and you’d rather be writing the next Great American Novel)
Which brings me to my next point–I hear what you are saying, and I agree with it in principle, but I think there are times when “your joy” really doesn’t matter–when “your joy” is probably not going to feel much like joy. Consider again something like responsibility. It isn’t “fun” and emotionally you probably aren’t going to feel “spectacular” even if you are responsible. It’s just necessary. I guess death qualifies in here too. It isn’t that death is fun or delightful, it’s just part of the process.
Or, take another example, assume you are in Hiroshima Japan and someone drops a nuke on you. Did you attract that? I’m not sure you did. I think it’s more that people have free will and sometimes in the course of their deciding what to do with their free will if it steps on yours, shit happens.
Those qualifiers being out of the way, the question I originally asked is whether the universe ever says no. I think there are instances where what your higher self wants is more somber–which isn’t necessarily going to result in joy but perhaps discipline. When one is on Earth, there are lots of enjoyable diversions–food, sex, praise–and on and on. It isn’t that those things are NOT enjoyable, and it isn’t that people don’t want them–it is that sometimes that sort of joy gets in the way with whatever it is you are trying to do–and sometimes that kind of joy is actually detrimental. In those instances, I think the universe says no, but partly because your higher self says no. A sense of joy may not be the goal here–but a sense of discipline and responsibility may be. In the END you might ULTIMATELY be happy that you were responsible and disciplined, but I think it’d be a hard case to say while you are on Earth that you really enjoyed not having sex, or good food, or what have you. You may have developed spiritual fortitude, but it probably was no joy ride. Same thing goes for traumatic deaths–burning alive and so fourth. That’s probably not at all enjoyable on any level, but when you are in spirit form, it isn’t “such” a big deal.
Good convo.
Excellent video, Melody. I like the way you did this one. You put the how-tos in writing and then used the video for depth. Very well done.
I’m going to try this process and see if I can get it to work for me. Why am I negative? It’s just difficult for me to get started. I’ll be fine after that.
Hi Glynis,
Trust me, I had the same trepidation. It took me a while to release the resistance I had to doing this video. I had the idea a couple of months ago, and although it took me a few weeks to get all the equipment together and research how to do this, I also had to spend a significant amount of time releasing blockages. But it’s totally worth it. Now that I’ve done the first one, the next one will be so much easier. Both because I have more skill now and because all that resistance is gone. 🙂
Can’t wait to see what you come up with! I’m rooting for you!
Hugs,
Melody
Melody,
So, so awesome – seeing and hearing YOU!!! Great work on the video – and again – you do such a wonderful job of making this easy to understand. It has me thinking about some of the things in my life that might have some negative beliefs attached to them…
Hugs and love,
Lance
Oh thank you Lance! And I’m so glad that this video got you thinking about your own resistance.
Hugs,
Melody
Hi Melody,
Awesome vLog. You actually write the way you speak which is rare. =)
I agree, an example that I can add here is that when I was trying to look for a regular corporate job 1 year ago and it always felt like there was heavy resistance, because a regular corporate job wasn’t part of my “alignment” or path at that time. So I started writing, lined up my energy and *Presto. I think focusing on the feelings of what we are doing is the key to either flow with the action or take another more flowing, inspired action activity.
Hi Baker,
Thank you so much for your kind words and for sharing your personal example. Inspired action is really the way to go. 🙂
Hugs,
Melody
Awwww I love you and your VLOG!
Thanks Kelly!
Hugs,
Melody
Hi Melody,
I am so excited for you! Way to go on your first VLOG. I truly enjoyed watching you personally deliver the information. Your beauty and sincerity allows your message to captivate readers.
I definitely agree with you that will power doesn’t work. I cannot count how many times I would get fired up about a new diet and have tons of will power in the beginning only to slow waaaay down and stop all together after a few weeks. I love how you relate everything back to feelings because it makes you become so aware of yourself throughout the day. I find myself having tons of inner dialog (and positive at that :)). I even now imagine my higher self hugging me when I do things contrary to my goal…like eating birthday cake and ice cream while trying to follow a raw food lifestyle.. 🙂 ).
In the end, I look at everything as a practice. You don’t just wake up and become thin, rich, healthy, etc. It takes practice, mindfulness, falling down and getting up.
Thanks for all you do,
Kim
Oh Kim! My angel! Thank you so much for your wonderful words. I’m so glad you liked it and got value from it. That was my main goal. It definitely is a journey. We do have to exert some effort, just not in the way we’ve been taught. The effort should go into releasing resistance and lining up our energy, not into furiously trying to make things happen…
Huge hugs,
Melody
Great job on the video. I am especially impressed at the length of it.
Thanks Mike! Yeah… this was pretty much as short as I could make it. Turns out, doing a blog post and doing a video are very different. The first version was over 20 minutes! 🙂
Hugs,
Melody
Hey Melody,
I loved the video! You’re really good at that format, I hope you do more of those in the future.
I couldn’t agree more with the topic – I have far too much first-hand experience with creating resistance :). For me, I’ve learned that the most powerful method for overcoming that resistance is to simply GIVE UP.. surrender.. pretend that you don’t even care about the goal and just relax about it.
Like you said, the Universe knows what you want, it has the power to bring it to you, so get out of the way and let it do it’s job.
Thank you Andrew! Uff, I can’t tell you how long it took me to release the resistance I had to doing this (me? on camera? Eek!) I follow my own advice.. and just like you, I’ve had enough experience of forcing myself to just push through. I used to be the poster child for getting things done using discipline and staunch determination. It cost me pretty dearly. Now, it might take me a bit of time to line up the energy, but it feels so much better.
Hugs,
Melody
