I get a lot of reader questions about the Law of Attraction. When I get a question that explores an LOA concept, I like to save it to turn into a blog post. But I also get a lot of smaller, more specific questions that often don’t quite warrant one of my mammoth explanations. In fact, they can be answered with just a paragraph or two. In that case, I usually answer those mails outright.
I realized, however, that a lot of these shorter questions are just as valuable as the epic ones, and that it’s time I start sharing some of these. With that in mind, I’ve decided to start a series of posts where I’ll answer several questions at once. Below you’ll find 4 short questions and the answers I sent to the readers that asked them. Enjoy!
Feeling “charged” when meditating
“As I’ve raised my vibration, I have started to feel more “charged”, like there are waves of intense energy moving through me, especially my arms and hands, or I shudder. It feels exactly like the feeling I get when I’m really, really deep in meditation. The thing is, it feels heavy, and I get a little scared because I thought higher vibrations would get lighter and lighter. What’s up with that?”
I know exactly what you’re talking about. This is the feeling you get when you’re accessing a frequency that’s a little bit too high for you, or higher than what you’re used to. If you’re accessing just a little bit, you may feel some tingling, if you’re accessing a lot, it can feel like you’re about to burst (like a pipe being flooded with water, but the water pressure is too high).
You can interpret this as a bad thing, which will make the experience uncomfortable. The heaviness you feel is part resistance (the higher your vibration, the more you notice any resistance that’s still present) and partially the difference between the dense energies of the physical and the lighter energies you’re accessing.
The important thing to remember is that this is temporary. The next time you access this same frequency, you won’t feel as much of a difference. And soon, you’ll notice nothing at all. At this point, people tend to freak out and think their mediations aren’t working anymore, since they’ve come to expect that charged up feeling. All it means is that you’ve grown accustomed to that level of energy.
Will doing cancer research give you cancer?
“I was wondering how things work when there is a group of people – experts – who are doing research on something negative (e.g. cancer, suicidal teenagers)… How do these things affect them? Won’t focusing on something negative actually perpetuate the problem or cause them to manifest that negative thing in their own lives? How is LOA being applied here?”
What we focus on isn’t nearly as important as how we feel about it.
Ok, so let’s say a researcher is doing cancer research. He’s focusing on cancer, so he’ll create more cancer, right? Nope.
You can’t know what his VIBRATION is just by what he’s focusing on. He may be joyful as he focuses on finding a cure and helping millions of people to heal. In that case, he’ll be passionate and will actually be aligning himself with the cure.
He may be bored and frustrated because of all the bureaucracy, but still WANT to find a cure. In that case, he’ll be blocking himself from finding the cure, or, if he does manage to offer enough energy to find it, it will be a very long, boring and frustrating road. The cure will come at a high price for him.
He may be focusing on all the suffering that cancer brings, making him feel powerless and angry. In that case, he may actually develop cancer himself (or some other disease).
How the researcher feels while focusing on his work will determine what he manifests going forward.

How Do I Know if Action is Inspired?
“I have been focusing on something but I don’t think I’ve had any inspired action yet. How do I know if action is “inspired” or just something I think I have to do?”
It sounds to me like you’re simply being impatient. You can’t miss inspired action. You take it without even really realizing that you’re taking it. There’s no decision to act, you just do. It’s easy and simple and feels perfect. Like when a friend shows up and you spontaneously have an amazing conversation. You never had to decide to have that conversation. It just happened and it was perfect.
If your mind is starting to scream at you that you should be DOING something, consider this: When you do visualization exercises to line yourself up with what you want, you ARE doing something. When you deliberately focus in a way that feels good, you ARE doing something.

Is Hard Work Really Unnecessary With the Law of Attraction?
Can you use little tricks and gimmicks to manifest what you want?
“A friend of mine told me that she’d heard of a new method to achieve her goals. You think of something that you want. Then you do something unusual in order to achieve it (like banging your head lightly against the wall for example, lol). Then you just stop thinking about it. I was amazed by this, I thought you had to constantly obsess about something and visualize. In fact I tried using The Secret several times but with no actual success. Then my friend and I tried using this method and some things actually came true….which was astonishing. What’s your stance on this?”
Ok, first, you don’t have to bang your head against a wall. It’s an interesting concept, but you’re not going to shake any LOA fairies loose that way, LOL. Having said that, lots of people have come up with lots of interesting little rituals over time, and sometimes, they even seem to work. You make a wish and toss a coin in a fountain, or blow out the birthday candles. Those actions don’t make anything happen on their own. However… if taking that action allows you to line up with the energy, because it helps you to let go of the wish (and allow it to come), then they can work. So, burning a letter, or screaming your desire into the wind or banging your head against a wall – these are all ways that people have come up with to help themselves let go and align.
When you believe, even a little bit, that if you state your wish, take some action and then let it go and then when you do that it actually makes you feel lighter and better, then that action has actually helped you align. But it’s still all about the feeling.

melody,
i get the difference intellectually, but i still don’t get it. I want to get a new job, but i don’t know what i want to do. looking at the ads and applying is daunting because i don’t know what i want. would inspired action be “i think i want to apply so i can align w/ my dream job?” because when i apply, it’s more like “i just want to get a job so i can leave this one.” can you please explain? thanks
I’ve been trying for several months but I’m not creating any vibration. Based on my experience I don’t know what it is. I don’t know what’s wrong with me but I just don’t get it. I did have 1 positive experience using the quick manifestation post.
HI Melody,
I’ve thought of another whopper of a question regarding the LOA. It would probably be best if I just type of the question and shoot you an email. Whether you choose to answer will depend on your other personal beliefs so I will get something to you in the next few days.
Great Todd! I look forward to reading your question! The best questions illicit the best answers, you know. :o)
Hugs!

Hi Melody
I think this is a really good idea. These little tidbits were very helpful. Reading your blog has really helped me understand dominant vibration versus where we put our attention, what we are thinking about etc…and it has really helped me move forward. I think that is something that gets overlooked and causes a lot of confusion with LOA concepts.
Thanks Kelli,
I agree. The difference between manifesting with thought versus manifesting with vibration is the most misunderstood concept in LOA and causes a lot of confusion. That’s why I try to clear it up every chance I get. 🙂
Thanks so much for your kind words, sweetie!

Hi Melody, this format is really nice though i love your more detailed posts as well. As to the first question, i’ve experienced this tingling feeling even online during IM contact with a very, very special lady, also during meditations, dreams, and sometimes while i was fully awake and couldn’t spot a particular reason or trigger for it. I’m aware of this blissful feeling for almost my entire life but obviously can’t evoke it deliberately — during meditation it may or may not occur.
However, it feels so incredibly good, much better than anything i’ve ever experienced in terms of my physical existence (even the best sexual experience is pale and insipid compared to the tingling — the latter is beyond physical pleasure,) that i would like more of it.
So my question is, is there a way to induce it deliberately and gain some sort of control over it? It’s way too good to leave it up to chance!
Purrs and head bonks
Brian
Hey Brian,
Well, first of all you can set an intention to manifest this feeling more often. Your inner being knows how to get you there better than anyone.
Second, I would do the following (I actually do this regularly): During meditation, when you’re good and relaxed, tell your higher self (or your guides or whatever) that you want to go higher. Don’t force it. You have to allow it. So relax and drift and just intend “higher please” and see what happens.
the tingling you feel is the difference between where you are and the new frequency you’re accessing. So, in order to keep experiencing it, you have to go higher again and again. There’s nothing at all wrong with that, in fact, it will bring with it more and more clarity. But, don’t force it and don’t try to go too fast. Your inner being knows what pace you can handle and what roadblocks need to be removed at each step. Allow that to happen.
It’s the same with any manifestation really: Set the intention and then ALLOW. 🙂
Huge hugs!

Such an interesting post. 🙂 I liked that question about cancer. So easy to believe and so difficult to disbelieve. Yes, it definitely makes sense about “focus” vs. “opinion about it”
Thank you Melody for this wonderful read.

I have a question about LOA. Even without consciously meditating, yet still being relaxed, I experience a “buzzing” in my body and it feels a bit as if I am being pulled from my body. It’s kind of like almost levitating. I interpret this as my unconscious being is pulled toward a higher frequency beyond the 3rd dimension, but is weighed here by my heavy physical body but I’d love to hear your thoughts. Have you experienced anything like this on your spiritual journey?
Thanks so much Melody. Love your blog!
Hey Cynthia,
I have a slightly different take on this. When we have the experience of leaving our bodies, we are not actually leaving our bodies physically, we are simply focusing our attention onto a non-physical part of ourselves. We are much bigger than our physical bodies and we are part of everything, all that is, so we can focus our attention on whatever part of our real selves that we choose. But… the non-physical part of us has a much higher frequency than we do. We will only ever get access to our real selves to the degree to which we can allow it.
So, when you get this feeling of being pulled out of your body, it’s the feeling of you accessing a higher frequency. And you become aware that not all of you is yet accustomed to that higher frequency. Your physical body is not weighing your down or holding you back. Your resistance is. But you don’t have to think badly of this, either. As you set the intention to access higher and higher energies, you’ll do so, at your own perfect pace. Your body will not hold you back, it will adjust right along with you. But your body is the translator of this energy. It allows you to experience it physically, so when you go higher and aren’t yet quite comfortable, you’ll feel it viscerally.
I’ve had many such experiences over the years. The key is not to try too hard to make anything happen, and also not to fight the discomfort, when there is any. What is happening to you is perfect for you right now. You don’t have to try harder to do it “better” and there is nothing holding you back from where you are supposed to be. You are where you are supposed to be and tomorrow, you’ll be where you are supposed to be. You’ve set your intentions and your inner being will guide you there perfectly. Your only job, really, is to enjoy the ride. 🙂
I hope that makes sense.
Huge hugs!

Hi Melody,
What a great idea! Breadth and depth at the same time – woohoo!
The part about feeling energy in your body makes sense to me. Around the beginning of the year, the energy surges were uncomfortable, but now they’re less noticeable, more like a relaxed warmth. There’s always something new to adapt to. Yeah!
The section on inspired action brings up a question I’ve had. How do you know if you’re “giving the Universe space” to fulfill your desires, or being lazy?? I think I know the answer — that if it feels good, it’s right. Living in inspired action is a lot more tranquil than trying to make things happen!

Mary Carol
Hey Mary Carol,
Every time I access a new vibration, I get a physical sensation. I actually love them. They’re a sign that I’m going higher than I’ve gone before. But they invariably fade and that’s ok, too. It’s a sign that I’m getting more stable in that new vibration, which is awesome. The surges can be a bit disconcerting, but if we remember not to fight them, they don’t have to be uncomfortable (boy has that little insight helped me this year!)
The balance between giving the Universe space and being lazy can be kind of a hard one to find sometimes. You’re right, it’s all about how you feel, but we all get impatient, and sometimes, we’re just itching to take action.
In that case, I would ask: “How does taking the action feel?” If it feels forced or obligatory or hard, sit back and relax. You’re trying to do the Universe’s job. If the action feels like relief from waiting around, go for it. Sitting around in agony and frustration serves no one. 🙂
Huge hugs!

Hi Melody,
I think it’s a very good idea to have these little question and answer posts, and I love the way you cross-reference with longer posts. That’s kind of the way I’ve been approaching the site anyway: reading one post alone is never enough!
Thanks for your lovely writing, many HSP hugs,
Sinead
Thanks so much Sinead! I’m glad to see this approach is working for readers.

Hi Melody
I’m liking the mini collective post,
Lots of different aspects of the LOA to think over and learn about
🙂
Thanks Catherine,
I think I’ll do more of these in the future. I have a lot of little ones like this that would be useful to publish. Plus, it gives me the chance to highlight some older posts that many will otherwise never really get a chance to see….
Huge hugs!
Melody
Sorry, I put a little heart, but it shows up as a question mark!!!! 🙂
I fixed it.
