REX April 2026 Content: Is Jesus Our Lord and Savior?

As you know by now, I’ve been called to write and speak more about God. As I’ve been sitting with this inspiration, trying to figure out what it means specifically, meaning, HOW I might talk and write about this, I’ve been looking more closely at the Christian faith. I admitted to you on our last REX group coaching call that I’ve been trying to reclaim the word “Christian” for myself, as it most closely describes my own faith. I believe in what Jesus taught, no matter if he was an actual person or not.

The thing is, though, that I don’t believe it BECAUSE Jesus said it, or is said to have said it. I came to my own faith, my own understanding of God in my own way. I followed my own inner light. And it’s my understanding that Jesus taught people to do exactly that – to follow the path of their own inner light. I do not worship Jesus; I don’t really worship anyone, unless we’re talking about the definition of worship that means to love and adore, which is not how it’s commonly used. I do not give my authority to Jesus, and in my understanding, Jesus never asked anyone to. In fact, he discouraged his followers from doing so and told them point blank on multiple occasions not to worship him. So, maybe I’m more of a follower of Jesus? But again, I didn’t come to my understanding and faith by following his words. Realizing that his words matched what I had come to was validating, to be sure, but it ultimately hasn’t brought me any new insights. Therefore, I’m going to have to backtrack on what I said on the last call and confess that I still don’t consider myself a Christian, even though what I believe closely aligns with what Jesus taught. I don’t think these insights, or this belief system, came FROM Jesus. I think he was a teacher of these beliefs, as well as an excellent example of someone living that faith.
