Boomer thanks you.
So, you probably know that one of my biggest personal obstacles has been obtaining the skill of setting boundaries with friends, or those whom I decided needed my help. I’ve scraped away layer after layer of beliefs that made me susceptible to “bad” friendships, people that I thought cared about me, but would betray me or the relationship at the drop of a hat. I would be there for them over and over again, but the one time I needed a bit of support, they couldn’t be bothered. I had to give and give, but never really got anything back. I had horribly one-sided relationships for years, and for quite some time, I was totally ok with that. Until… I wasn’t. I did eventually get to the point where I realized just how painful these relationships were for me; how out of balance they were. And I started the long and often difficult journey of learning how to set boundaries.
This wasn’t just about learning how to stand up for myself. That part is rather easy, comparatively speaking. The hard part, and the majority of the work, was about giving myself permission to set boundaries with others in the first place. I had loads of reasons for why I couldn’t do that before. This month, I’d like to share some of those reasons and corresponding insights with you, in the hopes that you may see some parallels in your own life, and get some clarity of your own. It’s well worth the effort. After all, as we become more and more stable, we can actually get to the point where we become unbetrayable. If that interests you, keep reading.
