Everyone’s got their own pace. Modern life and systems don’t want to respect this fact, but it’s true. We’re told when to get up, when to be at work, how many hours to work, when to take breaks, when to stop. We’re programmed to do more tasks than we seem to have time for. Our To-Do lists are constantly growing, and our available time is constantly shrinking, until we feel like we’re running as fast as we possibly can on a never-ending hamster wheel. We’ll never finish; we’ll never get it all done; we’ll never be able to slow down or relax. There’s no time to find our own pace, or to even acknowledge it exists. We’re always being shouted at, directed to go here, not there; speed up; now slow down; now sprint!
Maybe there are others that drive you forward, or maybe you have a drill sergeant voice in your own head. For me, it was both. Someone is always directing the pace, and usually, we’re trying to go as fast as we possibly can. In other words, we’re always in a hurry.
You’ve heard me say it before, but I’ve never written a whole piece of content on this. It’s a life-changing insight, though, or at least, it has been for me. Ready?
